Working Progress

So as of lately things have come to a stand still. I was unable to make it home last weekend to work on most of my projects. I am planning on going to Sioux Falls Saturday to pick up a few things I still need for my coasters, such as Mod Podge and pictures. Also, I'm search for Pop Can tabs and I'll need wire to put those together into a purse. The trinket box is put on hold until I'm able to make it home, along with the Bath Salts and brownies in a jar. I just don't have everything I need at my place right now. Hopefully soon I will be able to everything I need and start posting again!

P.S. I know the Bath Salts and Pop Can Tab purse wasn't on the list before but I've put them on now. Hopefully I will get enough tabs to make the purse in time for Christmas.

P.S.S. I'm also planning on making chocolate covered cherries!

Practice Resin Coasters Done!!

 Hey Everyone,
I finished up my practice coasters last night/today.

I mixed up some resin and put about 10 drops of blue in the resin to make the bottom layer. I didn't have any Mod Podge to seal my pictures so I was unable to put a picture in these.

I divided the blue resin between my two molds and let them both set overnight. In the morning the blue layer was already solid.

I now had to peel the mold off the two coaster to see how they turned out.
After much prying and pulling I did manage to get this one out. Note for next time add a conditioner or nonstick spray to mold for easier removal. There is a little blemish on the outer ring where the resin wasn't completely cured yet and still stuck to the mold.
I know this isn't the best picture but I was hopping to show you the two different layers, the clear ad the blue layers.
This is the square coaster. Looks really cool on this side, which is supposed to be the bottom but will most likely be the top now. The mold wasn't the best so I probably won't go for homemade molds anymore. The edges are really rough and the sides are cloudy along with the bottom. Maybe I can buff and shine it up. We will see.

Well now I can start my actual presents now that the practice round is over. Will start most of my projects this weekend. Can't wait! Sunday night will be a big blog night for me!

Resin Coasters

I started on my projects today. My first project is a set of resin coasters, possibly with pictures in them. For starters I am using Pour-On High Gloss Finish Casting Resin. I bought this at Michael's Craft Store for $19.99. This is a 16 fl oz kit, but I've already used some in other projects so I'm not sure how many coasters I can make with one kit.

Next product I have is Amazing Mold Putty. Before I was able to find a mold I thought of making one from a coaster I already have. I found this at Hobby Lobby. This is also $19.99. If done properly this kit can make several different molds but it took me a few tries before getting it right. It's easy to mix, just use the same amount of both colors. You need to mix the two together quite quickly. The putty turns into a silicone type piece and is flexible so you need to work fast otherwise it will start to turn on you.

This is the mold I made from another coaster. Just a simple square that I hope to put a picture into after the first layer has started to cure. I didn't get the mold completely smooth, because of this I will have to sand down the edges when it is done.

This is the other mold I found. I bought this online off of  resinobsession.com. This mold I believe was 1.98 plus s&h. It also can be turned around and used to make ornaments.

This is the dye I picked up. This is also from Hobby Lobby. The color is blue and I hope to use it to add a bottom layer of color at the very end.

So far I have started to fill up the molds with the first layer. I will make the coasters using 3 different layers. I will post again when things have gone a little but farther.
